Film Review; Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Been behind on reviews recently, so over the next week, between working on "WIM", I'll be working to catch up. Hopefully this review better demonstrates what I've learned from previous writing and from the review primer sessions.

  1. Hi Tom,

OK, you have a lot going on here - almost 2 separate essays really!

Your introduction is good, and the synopsis does the job , but then suddenly you jump into a pretty meaty discussion of Modernist ideas without at this point point linking them to the film... probably a very brief introduction to Modernism would have done, and then an expansion of the ideas through the analysis of the film.

You should ensure that your font is consistent throughout; at the moment you have some extra-large fonts in certain areas of text, which gives the whole piece an overall look of being somewhat unfinished - like you have cut and pasted bits in and then forgot to format them. You should also be embedding the quotes rather than having them sitting as a separate entity, as this will help with the flow of the writing.

You also need to look again at the way to reference - in the text, you just need the surname and the date, in brackets directly after the quote, so for example

'...function as self-expression instead of expressing the products’ functions.’ (Rams, 1989)

There are details missing from the bibliography, and it should be organised alphabetically by surname - see here for what is required -

    1. Thanks for the feedback Jackie!
I was actually changing the font type and size on purpose, but I understand what you mean about it breaking up the flow of the review.
And apologies for once again needing to tighten up on my referencing! I think all the information was there, I just wasn't careful enough to put it in the right places.
I'll try and take this into account when I write my review for Alien in the next few days.
