I also had some issues with compression, thanks to using Sony Vegas rather than Premier, so most of the backgrounds got lost in the darkness. There wasn't anything amazing in the background anyway, it's just to assure that there was supposed to be a larger landscape in most of the shots, rather than a small isolated illuminated patch of ground.
