Principles of Animation 2; Squash & Stretch, and Weight
Here is another sequence of GIFS demonstrating a couple more principles of animation.
This Ball shape shifts as it bounces along the ground. When the ball is moving fast, it stretches along it's direction of movement. When it impacts the ground, it squashes against it. This creates a more organic looking bouncing motion. The effect can be exaggerated to give a more 'cartoon-y' look.
This animation demonstrates how weight can be implied through animation. The lighter the ball, the more it bounces.
